Heat reduces crop productivity
High temperatures can affect crops even where irrigation remains available.
Extreme heat may reduce:

- flowering;
- grain formation;

- final yield;

Water applied during very hot conditions may also evaporate quickly, reducing irrigation efficiency.
Fertilizer use must reflect realistic yield potential
Nutrient application should be adjusted to soil moisture, crop stage and expected production.

- root activity may weaken;
- nutrient uptake may slow;
- crop response may become less predictable;
- economic returns from additional application may fall.
More fertilizer cannot compensate for insufficient water or heat-damaged crops.
