Calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN 26/27) is a granular nitrogen fertilizer produced by mixing ammonium nitrate with finely ground limestone. The resulting product delivers roughly half its nitrogen as immediately available nitrate and half as ammonium, alongside 20% calcium oxide that supports cell-wall development and provides a mild liming effect on acid soils. Eastern European and Central Asian buyers use CAN 26/27 as the primary spring top-dress for winter wheat, rapeseed, sugar beet and maize where soil pH sits below 6.5.
Compared with straight ammonium nitrate, the limestone diluent lowers oxidizing intensity and improves granule hardness — an advantage in humid storage and long rail transit across CIS corridors.
