NP 20-20 — Balanced Starter Fertilizer for Spring Crops

The 20-20 NP ratio provides equal nitrogen and phosphorus at planting — the classic starter blend for spring cereals, maize and sunflower where early root development and tillering depend on both nutrients being available from emergence. Total nutrient content of 40% keeps freight efficient while avoiding excess phosphorus that would be wasted on high-P soils. Granules 2–4 mm. From 1,000 MT.

Field Application

Apply NP 20-20 at 100–200 kg/ha banded below the seed row at planting, or broadcast pre-plant and incorporate. On soils testing high in phosphorus, reduce NP rate and supplement with nitrogen-only top-dress later in the season. Bulk or bagged delivery to farm or distributor warehouse.

FAQ

When is NP 20-20 preferred over DAP as a starter fertilizer?

NP 20-20 suits soils with moderate phosphorus levels where DAP's 46% P2O5 would oversupply P. The balanced ratio also simplifies application planning when soil tests show equal N and P demand at planting.

Can NP 20-20 be used for autumn-sown crops?

Yes. Winter wheat and rape benefit from NP 20-20 applied at seeding, providing phosphorus for root establishment before winter dormancy and nitrogen for early spring tillering.

How does NP 20-20 compare to applying urea and TSP separately?

The compound granule ensures each placement point receives both N and P, improving nutrient distribution uniformity versus separate spreading passes with different products.
