Product overview
Technical urea is a refined nitrogen feedstock for chemical conversion — not a field fertilizer. Where agricultural urea 46% is optimised for granule strength, low dust and bulk vessel discharge into national subsidy programmes, technical grade is produced and tested against limits that downstream reactors actually measure: biuret, iron, aldehyde and moisture.
The molecule feeds urea-formaldehyde (UF) and melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin lines at particleboard, MDF and plywood mills across Turkey, India and Southeast Asia. Melamine crystal plants consume the same grade as a carbon-nitrogen precursor. Diesel exhaust fluid (AdBlue / AUS 32) blenders need low-biuret prills that dissolve cleanly without discolouring the urea solution. Leather tanning, pharmaceutical intermediates and selective catalytic reduction chemistry round out the import base.
We source from integrated ammonia-urea complexes on the Black Sea and in MENA, issuing mill certificates aligned with ISO 2758 and buyer-specific resin or DEF protocols. HS code 3102.10 applies to both agricultural and technical urea; customs classification follows end-use declaration.

Loading ports & logistics
Container shipments dominate technical urea trade: one 20 ft dry container carries roughly 25 MT in 25 kg PE-lined bags or 1,000 kg FIBC big bags. Multiple containers consolidate at Novorossiysk, Constanta corridor terminals, Damietta and Jebel Ali for weekly sailings to resin clusters in Izmir, Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City and Durban.
Large melamine and resin complexes with dedicated urea silos may contract bulk parcels from 500 MT upward on handysize tonnage. Loading rates at nitrogen terminals reach 5,000–10,000 MT per day; CFR and CIF quotations add ocean freight and marine insurance. Contract lead time is 12–28 days from payment instrument confirmation to ex-works or FOB readiness.
Store under cover at relative humidity below 65%. Technical urea hygroscopicity is lower than agricultural grade at equivalent moisture, but sealed bags must not be punctured during container stuffing.
Packaging & documentation
Standard export packing: 25 kg PP bags with PE inner liner, palletised and stretch-wrapped, or 1,000 kg FIBC with moisture barrier. Bulk lots ship loose into certified holds with fumigation certificate where destination requires it.
Each lot includes a mill certificate of analysis covering purity, biuret, moisture and iron. On request we arrange SGS or equivalent pre-shipment inspection. Document set: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and non-wood packing declaration. REACH and SDS copies supplied for EU and UK consignees.
FAQ
How is technical urea different from agricultural urea 46%?
Agricultural urea targets field application with biuret capped at 1.0% and granule strength for bulk spreading. Technical urea is refined for chemical conversion — biuret at 0.3% max, tighter moisture and iron limits — so UF resin reactors, melamine trains and DEF blending lines see stable feedstock quality without catalyst poisoning or off-spec finished product.
Which industries are the main buyers of imported technical urea?
Wood-panel mills running urea-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde adhesive lines, melamine crystal producers, diesel exhaust fluid (AdBlue) blenders, leather tanning operations and pharmaceutical intermediate plants. These buyers prioritise chemical purity over granule crush strength.
Is technical urea shipped in containers or bulk vessels?
Container lots of 25 MT in 25 kg or 1,000 kg bags suit mid-size resin and DEF plants with limited silo capacity. Large integrated complexes often take 500–5,000 MT bulk parcels into dedicated urea handling terminals. We quote both formats against the same technical specification.
